Herja

Biography

In the beginning of 2018, after taking part in The Voice of Finland singing competition, Mika Pääskynen approached Juhani Suominen, the former guitar player of Naslow in the hopes of making new music after Mika’s former band Mysore had decided to break up. For a year and a half Mika and Juhani worked on writing new music and finding their sound.

By the end of summer in 2019 they had found their style. By this time they had a bunch of material written so the next logical step was to start searching for players to form the rest of the band.
They got reinforcements from ex-Mysore guitarist Jussi Kiviluoto, drummer Jean-Nicolas “Nico” Sauvé (previously of Savage Land) and bass player Ville Ihander (previously of Obedient Chaos).
As the group was now complete, the band continued writing new music for their first EP.

Like the rest of the world, in 2020 Herja also suffered from the Covid-pandemic and the pre production of the EP was delayed. During this time, Jussi decided to step out of the band. As the pre production of the EP was already so far along and the urge for stages was great, the band decided to continue as a four-piece.

During the summer of 2021 Herja entered the studio.
While finding the right guy for the job was hard, the band finally got in touch with the talented american producer Jamie King (BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, SCALE THE SUMMIT) who mixed and mastered the EP, which will be released by the end of summer 2022.

Several subgenre influences can be heard in Herja’s music. The style moves fluently between gentle melodic parts and adrenaline pumping aggressive mayhem.
Herja’s Finnish lyrics draw influence from everyday life’s difficulties and the hardships of coping with them, sprinkled with fairy tales and folklore.
